TAAG EU ban
Hello ladies and gents,
I heard some time ago that TAAG is looking for skippers for all fleets.
Is that true?
If yes, do you know the requirements and the compensation package?

no idea personally...but I have a friend who recently finished a contract as a 74 capt. for TAAG Angolan. I think he was flying combis Angola->Rio and back.
If you have any specific questions...I might run into him sometime in the next 3 months or so...he's about 1500 miles away from where I am, but I'll prob run into him sometime this summer.

I think he might have had an issue with them paying him his last check...pretty sure they phased out the old 74s. I will most likely speak to him between now and June 30th, so I'll get all the gouge/info I can and post here. If I recall, they phased out the 74 combis for 777s or 340s or something. He was expat, and I'm pretty sure most of his fellow contract crew were Europeans or Americans.
Pretty sure he was living in a nice beachfront flat in Rio on off days...not sure about hotels on overnights.
As for another Angolan-based outfit, have either of you guys heard of Transafrik's hiring reqs for FOs or FEs??? I've heard it's a good place to get some heavy experience on 727s & C130s for the heavy-inexperienced.
I'm low-time, so I'll get whatever info I can for you more-experienced folk...never hurts to have some good contacts and good karma!!!

Both the B743’s (Reg. TEA & TEB) are still flying. The 743 reg. TEB was withdrawn from use in the beginning of 2007, standing at FAJS - SAA Technical in “white Tail” and markings removed (stripes remained). Recently TEB was painted back into the old TAAG c/s and is flying again. The B743 (Reg. TEC) is still standing in all white at SAA Technical but I think it was only leased from SAA and never owned by TAAG.

EU Ban on TAAG
The following was seen on News24 today:
London - Angola's civil aviation authority has rescinded British Airways' permit to fly into the southwestern African nation, a spokesperson for the airline said on Monday.
"We were informed on Friday by the Angolan CAA that it had rescinded BA's seasonal operating permit with immediate effect," BA spokesperson Richard Goodfellow said.
BA operates one return flight a week between London and Luanda. The ban came after British authorities informed Angola's national carrier, TAAG, that it would not be allowed to fly into the United Kingdom. The European Union said last week that it was moving toward banning the Angolan carrier from EU skies, a decision that came on the same day that a TAAG jet crashed in northern Angola

As far as US Airspace - TAAG-Angola is persona non grata...
Angola defined as a "Category 3" nation by US/DOT.
No commercial operators from Angola may fly commercially into USA.

TAAG EU Ban
Has anyone perhaps insight into the situation and progress of TAAG's ban by the EU?
Have heard a very reliable rumour that TAAG very recently gave the EU thirty days to reconsider their ban or face reciprocal action by Angola towards every EU airline including BA and TAP flying to Angola.
It is also further alleged that the Angolan government is busy lobbying all other African governments to support this initiative. The Angolans are said to be using their political and financial muscle to persuade other African countries similarly affected by the EU ban to also follow suit and ban EU airlines flying into their countries.
Will be interesting to see how this issue plays off.
