Air Seychelles has signed a deal with Viking Air for the purchase of two DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400s and one option, becoming the launch customer for the type. The airline, which has operated a fleet of DHC-6-300s as far back as 1987, will take delivery of the new types during the first quarter of 2009.

Great to see! With sectors of 12- 30 mins in length and some grass strips, there was'nt alot to replace the Twotter . I believe they now have two SD360's for PRA.
I spent nearly 4 years in Seychelles and enjoyed nearly every square second of it. Great to see them upgrading their fleet.

Certainly one, perhaps two Shorts and an Islander as well.
Two dreamliners are scheduled for delivery at the same time as the Otters? This should enable Air Seychelles to compete more efficiently with the likes of Qatar and Emirates with their shiny new machines. Poor old Air Seychelles is looking pretty tired at the moment compared with these two operators and the ticket price structure on HM simply does not reflect value when compared with that of its competitors. Pearl Class is very ancient and expensive these days and does not compare with the business class available on, say, Qatar. It does well though, although how many of its passengers are state funded is another matter. There are very few seats available for all the punters who are meant to come in to stay at all these wonderful(?) five star hotels springing up all over the place. (That's another story best left untold.)
The airport is undergoing extensive renovation, rather a rebuild actually, and there is now air conditioning in the arrivals/immigration hall! Private jets are the new vogue at Mahe these days and some of them are really quite large machines.
To delve into the socio - political arena would be outside the scope of this forum but it might interest those who love Seychelles to keep track of the events following the elections due to take place this week.
