Contract Flying & Tax
So E.T. let us pay tax on our income from contracts. Can we get around
that or is that just LIFE. If we can claim it back does anybody know what
that involves and the time frame for this. Are other contract companies
doing the same? Thanks

Thats life!!! They are doing it to cover their arses from Trevor and his cronies should it come to year end and you don't meet the minimum requirements for tax relief. Currently stands at minimum 183 days out of the country with one tour of minimum 63 days unbroken out of country. If they don't deduct the tax and you fall short of the requirements then they can be held liable - you will be able to claim it all back at the end of the tax year and dear Trev will pay you as he normally does (when it suits him). SOme companies dont take tax but it will bite them in the badge one day.

I speak under correction, but if you were"aiming"at not paying tax in SA -then:
1) You need to be out of SA for 183 days of the year( keep track of it in your diary)
2) Of which 60 days needs to be continious.(go on holiday to eg Europe for 30 days, work for 30 days(of course out of SA again) and then back to SA to see the family before they start claiming your ensurance).
This I think is all that's needed, but check with tax consultant !!
