Squirrel Crash in Germiston March 28 '07

Helicopter crashed today in Germiston! Apparently ZS-RSW Squirrel. One person died? Thoughts go out to family and friends. Any other info?

TV news carried cell phone footage of the crash. The person killed was apparently an occupant of one of the vehicles hit by the Squirrel.

Also saw the footage. Looked as if he lost power as he was transitioning to foward flight. Sank slowly then struck a car. Hopefully the footage will help with the investigation.

Know the pilot. Used to fly EMS chopper for netcare. overweight under powered. taking off from inside Eskom National Control in a confined unapproved landing area. This was an internal Eskom flight done by their own flight section. And rumour has it they failed their inspection with CAA.

Are you referring to Sapphire Air failing a CAA inspection? The machine is owned by Henley Air, therefore not Eskom's flight section (Sapphire Air). Can you elaborate a bit more?

Sad day, hope the injured recover.

The pilot is an employee of Sapphire Air-Eskom passengers where senior employees of Eskom. Aircraft was chartered by Eskom to perform line audits using their own personal. Operating under part 91 as they failed their audit in Jan.
