Jetranger crash outside Durban

Last night at about 20:30 a Bell Jetranger crashed near my parents farm in Key Ridge Natal about 40km North of Durban. Apparrantly my father and brother heard a chopper flying during some heavy mist followed by a loud crashing noise. My brother and some other residents went searching the nearby cliffs and followed the strong smell of jet A1 until thay found the wreck. Unfortunately the pilot had been killed on impact with the cliff face. There were mistaken reports of another 2 people on board, however after searching they turned out to be false. The remoteness of the area made it difficult for certified search and rescue teams to get on scene.

Thoughts and prayers to the family.

I'm sad to hear this - always desperately painful when lives are lost. But - ye gods! A Bell 206, night time, mist, cliff face? The combination boggles my mind.

RIP

A good friend

I knew the pilot very well, we grew up together and we started flying together, irrespective of how and why we should all respect what has happened and not comment with all allegations as a life has been lost and a really good friend.

Roux RIP my friend, you will be missed

Met him recently and was so impressed with his keen attitude and obvious love of fling-wings.

Devastating news. Condolences to the family and the team at NAC who have suffered a terrible loss.

Rest in peace bro - you'll be sorely missed.
