Cape Town - A plane taking part in an air show in Cape Town has crashed into the sea near Milnerton on Friday afternoon.
Officials at Ysterplaat base told News24 that a plane taking part in the Africa Aerospace & Defence - AAD 2006 show, had crashed into the sea but were unable to say what had happened or if anyone had been injured.

Sad it is. Apparently the pilot did not survive. Condolences to the family members and friends, what a sad loss for us all. May he fly forever.
Safe flying for the rest of us!

it is very sad Romeo ET that you found glorification in posting this man's name and photo before the media has released hisname. it is unetchical yiu should know that.
although I have confirmation his family knows already
My posting came after his name was released on the AVCOM forum, the forum for real general aviation pilots and friends of the pilot involved.
I merely "pasted" the image link from there......seeeing that the image amongst the aviation community in SA had become known.

You may now appollogize....thank you.

"Retired General" aka "Alfred Kamara", this thread is only about 5 replies long,
the forum on which you are as well has just barely made it to page 2 and there are not a lot of "intimate-friends" there of the pilot, whilst on AVCOM there are already 3 pages going with lots of close friends and associates,
If they can release the name amongst each other on a site that is visited by more aviation enthusiasts than here or on the other site, then I rest my case........

Our dearly departed friend would not like us to engage in the throwing of 'ethical' darts at each other.
Was a great pilot who inspired old and young alike and will be sorely missed by family, friends, colleagues, airshow public and many more.
For the sake of unity in aviation please drop the accusations.
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings,
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth,
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things,
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung,
High in the sunlight silence, hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless hall of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue,
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew-
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod,
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

My sincerest condolences to all concerned. I had the pleasure of meeting Martin, Ralph and Nigel last year at Ysterplaat (even got Nigel to fly their routine on my PC) and they all seem like really nice guys.
I don't know how many of you know this, but I seem to recall Ralf also having a close shave earlier this year en route to Ermelo or somewhere when he had an engine flameout.
Does this have anything to do with the age of the aircraft type concerned or possibly the standard of maintenance? Two fatal accidents and an emergency landing in the space of just over a year (Gabriel Ndabandaba and Johnny Hattinngh died on September 10 last year) doesn't look good at all.
Not being a RW pilot at all I realise I could be very naive here.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Pilots,always worshipped from afar,
brave souls controlling that montrosity,
which should defy logic.
Peaked caps,wry smile,the total proffesional.
The hard mans mate,
crew dollies pin up,
the centre of our industry,aviation.
Rest in peace brave one,
we will always add your image amongst other fallen heroes in our mind,
whenever discussing our industry's security requirements.
Our condolence to his family, friends and associates.
