Hello Saturn,
African Intl DC-8 fleet actually went from 5 down to 3 aircrafts a few month ago. Their two -55f are now stored in Johannesburg. Now they are only flying around with 3 -62f.
About hirirng I don't know.
I talked to one of their capt a few month ago, who is now retired. And he told me the aircrafts are actually not in such a good shape they look like, but he has seen much worse.
There was already a topic about them not so long ago :
http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=207327
I saw on the middle east forum you also asked for dc-8 operators. The two you mean I suppose are Johnson Air with 3 -63f and one grounded -62f and heavy lift Arabia with 2 -63f. One operator is mainly in Bahrain and the other mainly I Sharjah. There were many talks on the Azimas brother on this forum, just make a search.
They hired quite a lot a few month ago, there were a few job vacancys on climbto350 and even on the aeroservice type rating school web site.
I suppose you come from ATI, good luck with your job hunt.
Regards,
og

Oligoe, you should not believe everything that you hear (especially if that person is no longer in aviation/current).
AIA, currently have 3 x DC8-62 's, 1 based in JNB on contract, the other 2 are based in europe.
They are possibly looking for FO's and FE's, if you are interested , contact details as follows :
http://www.aiaflycargo.com/contact.html
And, yes the aircraft are in good nick considering their age

Wouldn’t go near the place if I was you and I’m speaking first hand….. not hearsay.
If its your only option and your life depends on it then sure that’s a different story.
Trust me I know!!!!!!!!!

African ainternational is operating on behalf of SAA cargo in the evenings.
Safair tried to start their own cargo flights during the nights. SAA had to get the DC8's to operate for them until the 2 B73-300 freighters come from asia in november.

Oligoe hi,
Sorry haven’t come back to you, I have been away flying.
I should have been more specific in my previous post, I was talking about AIA.
Don’t have any details about the job that’s advertised, but if however it turns out to be AIA, then proceed with extreme caution.
There’s a saying…… once bitten twice shy.

Undiemole,
My strong response regarding AIA was to the comment made in the 3rd post………
They are possibly looking for FO's and FE's, if you are interested , contact details as follows : http://www.aiaflycargo.com/contact.html
Also if you read my comment in my post just before yours I stated that
Don’t have any details about the job that’s advertised, but if however it turns out to be AIA, then proceed with extreme caution.
I could spell out the unpleasant details and others could follow suit (yes I’m not alone ) as to the way employers are treated and just tossed by the way side when they are surplus to requirements, led along under false pretences.
What my wife would like to do to the owner of this company (Anal Stick) for almost bringing our family financially to its knees is indescribable, but I shall say no more as it is a small company and I could jeopardise my identity if I say more.
My 2 pence/cents worth is…… I personally wouldn’t work for the company AIA if it was the only flying job out there, if you, or anyone else out there are happy to take the chance, then good luck you will need it.
Happy flying
FF
