New International Low Cost Airline in 2008?
Latest Rumours:
I just heard that a new BEE consortium is going to start up at end of 2008 beginning 2009.
They are apparently talking with Airbus for A 350’s
1. Routs: JNB – Gatwick - JNB --10 x per week
2. JNB- Hahn - JNB -- 6 x per week.
3. CPT – Gatwick – CPT --- 7 x week.
Aircraft identified for start-up: B 777- 300 or Airbus 340-500
Very interesting!!!!

Would not get too excited, if history is anything to go by these operations never take off- this type of thing noramlly only comes off if an established operator gives it a go- like CE to LGW. I cant see the SA DOT taking another chance like they did with Civair and African Star, what was the last one to try Cantuan or something?
Also the aircraft types chosen- a 340-500 and a 777 just gives one the impression that this is more a pipe dream than a real possibility.
I just hope they dont go recruiting crew with emtpy promises and that potential employees only sign on once they have actually clapped eyes on the operating licence and seen the aircraft out on the ramp.

That is so true Deskjocky.
What is a suitable A/C on theses routes?
B 747-400?
I would like to suggest an aircraft faster then the Concord …….cut the blurry flying time to 3 hours.

Great, if in true BEE fashion, they will only employ non-whites , they can have aircraft sitting on the ground for a lack of aircrew.
Maybe they will take all the PDI pilots from the National Flying School they keep threatening to set up (to balance the numbers).
The Captain will have 300hrs and a twin rating, the F/O a PPL, and the P3 will have at least seen an aircraft (Don't worry Mods, it's sarcasm)

FC,
B747 400 is becoming a tad on the expensive side to operate at the moment so definitely not a starter. If it were my bucks I would look to the east, more potential and less competition using a B767 200ER

Sounds like GdK's startup just before the '95 RWC. Guess what happened just after when the pax loads dropped?
