Fate of ZK- registered DC-3s
Hello,
newbie on this list, although for years now I've been on various Yahoo forums.
Have a website on aviation history and my photography: www.ruudleeuw.com
Recently added a page on photos sent to my Brad Pilgrim, depicting a stored DC-3 ZK-BBJ at Mombasa,Kenya; the photos date from 1997.
Peter Layne reacted, he writes books on subject of New Zealand aviation history; he is looking for fates of other former National Airways Corporation Daks.

DC-3 Reg
I was in Bujumbura, Burundi during December. There are two DC-3's parked there, looks like they have been for a while. Their registrations numbers are 42-93537 and 42-23507. Would be interesting to find out where they come from. Any one with any info?

Ex Burundi Air Force AFAIK. Someone did try to operate a couple of piston DC3s on the civvy register a couple of years ago but not sure what happened to them. Those mountains can't be good for ops in unpressurised slow climbing piston engined aircraft.

As to the History, the numbers 42-93537, 42-23507 are their birthdates or Run numbers. Both being built by Douglas in 1942.

If you are a serious "Dak" fan heres a link to the Douglas Production list of aircraft when manufactured and their first deployments. Manufactured in Long Beach, California

It appears 42-23507 may have been in an accident while still with the U.S. Military. Search brought that out. If a buyer was interested he could get a copy of the report for a fee from

Obviously not serious, if the aircraft is still flying, but a part of the history anyway.
