Basic TCAS

Could anyone please advise if basic TCAS is usable in South Africa or do we have to upgrade to TCAS 11. We would like to know so we can do the upgrade prior to import or if basic is usable, we would do the refit after import.

Regards

I am not sure if these details are still current but I think your best bet is to contact the South Africa Civil Aviation Authority directly :

Ernest Claassen
Flight Operations
Head of Operations
Small Commercial
Email : [email protected]

or try

Arthur Downes
Flight Operations
Inspector

This is unrelated but a genuine rumour. A heavy on the ramp at FACT today picked up a TCAS signal "very close by" indicating 1200 ft below sea level!! Any reports of a spin-in, any old TCASs disposed of?
