With credit to Ghanaweb.com ......

Accra, Dec. 19, GNA - A Boeing 737-200 aircraft operated by Bellview Airlines of Nigeria made an emergency landing at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Monday after the pilot reported a hydraulic system failure. Flight B3 252 scheduled for Freetown, Sierra Leone through Accra was expected to touch down at 11.00 hours but landed 55 minutes later with a burst tyre due to system failure. There were no casualties.

Mr Femi Awe Gideon, Bellview Country Manager for Ghana, told the Ghana News Agency that the pilot radioed the Accra Traffic Control to report the fault and requested for ground emergency services to enable him to land. Upon landing, the movement of the aircraft was further hampered by a burst tyre so it remained in the middle of the runway, leading to a temporary closure of the airport for 45 minutes during which the passengers were evacuated and the plane towed away.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has named a team of experts to investigate the incident. In the last two months, three Nigerian operated planes, including a Bellview aircraft crashed in that country, raising concerns of safety among the travelling public, not only those on the domestic route but also passengers flying along the West Coast where many of the airlines operated. According to sources close to the Kotoka International Airport Bellview aircraft was banned from flying following a recent crash of one of such planes in Nigeria about two weeks ago killing more than 100 passengers.

So if the NCAA have grounded all 737 100 and 200 series Nigeriann registered aircraft, how are Bellview still flying. Here's a report from the Nigerian newspaper Vanguard for today:

Nigeria Aircraft Grounded

Does anybody know the truth about what's really happening in Nigeria at the moment?

Mama mangrove, the aviation sector is doomed for now. Those of us away and planning to return soon, are having a rethink The sector needs a rejuvenation. Task forces, grounding of airlines, etc, will not work.

Engine noise, don't despair of Nigerian aviation, but choose your employer very very carefully.
The authorities are having to get their act together in light of the recent spate of accidents and incidents, their poor performance of the past now showing through.
It is a sad reflection on previous actions that it has taken 200+ deaths to create a determined attitude to putting matters right.
If you are flying in countries that have high standards of professionalism towards aviation safety then now is definitely the time for you to return to help Nigeria move forward.

and the latest item from Ghanaweb (not that it says much new) ....

A Nigerian passenger plane made an emergency landing Monday in Ghana after the pilot reported a hydraulic system failure.

No injuries were reported, but sources said the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority would ground the Bellview Airlines Boeing 737-200 pending an investigation into the incident.

The plane made an emergency landing at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Flight B3 252 scheduled for Freetown, Sierra Leone through Accra landed 55 minutes late with a burst tyre due to system failure.

Femi Awe Gideon, Bellview Country Manager for Ghana, told the Ghana News Agency that the pilot radioed the Accra Traffic Control to report the fault and requested for ground emergency services to enable him to land.

The plane came to a stop in the middle of the runway, closing the airport for 45 minutes during which the passengers were evacuated and the plane towed away.

Three Nigerian-operated planes, including a Bellview aircraft, have crashed in that country in recent weeks, raising concerns of safety among the travelling public.

There are reports that bellview has been grounded as a result of the accra problem. Will the ban affect its internatonal flights? What is also the implication of the ban on its operation as the national carrier of sierra leone?
