JAR CPL to SA CPL

Hi,

I have a JAR CPL, ME-IR, 500 hrsTT and I would like to obtain a South-African CPL ME-IR.
Could somebody give me more information what I have to do in order to qualify and obtain a South-African CPL ME-IR licence.
Could you also make a suggestion regarding flight schools in South-Africa.

Seeing that you already have a CPL, just buy the SA CPL books and study at home, then write the exams. Books from AVEX, FTC etc are pretty good. Perhaps somebody can lend/sell you his CPL books, especially if they've already got an ATPL.

I would suggest you go for the full CPL (not the validation) as many SA companies want the real SA license. Get the SA medical too and then you have the best of both worlds.

you can get a validation easily just by writing air law and doing a flight test, which is valid for a year, but as square leg said, in the long run it is better to get the SA CPL. For that you must write all the exams (8) and do the flight test, medical, CRM and dangerous goods.
The person to speak to is Claudia in the SACAA, as she deals with this sort of stuff (sorry, don't have her direct dial to hand) I tend to ignore their website, as they never seem to update it.

Thanks for the information.
I would like to obtain the full SA CPL and not just a validation.
Any idea if I have to take classes for the theory or if I can take the exams immediately without taking theory classes.
How many exams I have to do for the theory?
and what about the practical tests?

The way I understand it you will have to write all 8 exams for the theory to get the full CPL. This can be done by self study as we don't have a requirement here for you to attend a ground school before being allowed to write. After the exams you will need a Class 1 medical certificate and a flight test which can be arranged through any of the flight schools.

Did exactly this very thing a while ago. Do the exams, do the multi ir flight test and hey presto one SA CPL. All you need to write is to produce your JAR CPL at CAA.
