Spoke to the British High Commission today. They are now advising all prospective candidates for the British Military (and Navy!) that if they join up they will not be able to go into combat. Therefore they will not be accepted.

So now they will have to give up SA citizenship and even then will never be able to come back into SA if they have been in combat (this actually includes anybody who has been in a combat zone).

There are approx 1500 South Africans in the UK military - they will all have to give up SA citizenship or come home (to what??)

Not to mention SA Jews in Israel, US dual citizens, Greek dual citizens, etc. I suppose it wont apply to Palistinian dual citizens though!

Is this the thin edge of the wedge?

There is much more to this bill than meets the eye!

Funny though, in terms of this bill, even the SA Military will have to get approval to go into a combat zone?? Duuh.

Democracy = the tyranny of the masses.

Meknows,

The definition of democracy: Three wolves and a sheep, discussing what's for......... lunch.

So Bush is now elevated to Prophet: God told him in a dream to attack Iraq.

Why didn't he just say so! He had a terrible amount of people there from all over the world looking for WoMD! Charlie bin Laden is still ever so evasive and still quite a nuisance, the attention shifted so quickly....

Who is his god, Hades (Pluto)?

Mercenary bill: Govt holds fire
08/11/2005

Cape Town - The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the government's recognition that the mercenary bill is flawed.

Since the draft bill was first tabled, the DA's defence MP, Rafeek Shah, said he had been inundated with calls from concerned citizens who would be criminalised overnight if the bill was passed.

Shah said: "If left unchanged, the bill will criminalise anyone who is employed in legitimate private security work overseas.

"At the same time, it will allow individuals to participate in terrorist activity."

His comments followed a briefing by Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota to the defence portfolio committee at parliament.

He said a number of changes to the Prohibition of Mercenary Activity Bill were necessary, including possibly changing the bill's name.

Pitfalls in the draft exposed

Lekota said parliament could not pass a bill that was unconstitutional, as he believed certain aspects of the present draft were.

He said the experience of having so many South Africans working in Iraq as security guards had exposed pitfalls in the draft.

"Some of our citizens go to Iraq. They say they are employed by security companies.

"By the nature of the war, by the nature of the conflict there, people often find themselves in situations that are difficult. What do we do with that when suddenly you find your citizens in a situation where they lose their lives," he said.

Shah said he welcomed Lekota's attitude.

Public hearings on the bill will start next year.

Its not aimed at whites, you are all forgetting our black comrades who served in SF in the old days. Our Portuguese speaking friends. I fly lots of them in and out of Iraq every day. In my opinion its just another knee-jerk reaction of our 'government' to pressure from other African leaders. These guys are understandably a bit concerned that their rules of tyranny may be cut short by a splintering door and a flash-bang at 4am. So they get on the phone to Thabo and request that he collars his dogs please. And another law is tabled at the drop of a hat. More of this coming.

The vast majority of the voting majority in SA are ignorant of 95% of the actions of the government, so what you essentially have is a cabal in power, financed by the minority who they have no responsibility to!

They have enough power to pass anything – but if we don’t make the calls and send letters we shouldn’t really complain after the fact.

One thing to remember is Mr M’s future plans which seem to be UN / AU, especially if the former he has to at least give a front of listening and doing things – he can’t be seen to streamroller things through.
