Saw a red AN2 up in Algeria a couple of months ago and had a chat with the crew. Apparently they were on the way down to the DRC. Interested to note that they were refuelling with mogas - no avgas, they reckoned the engine can handle it! Anyone know if this would have been the same aircraft?

I'm not sure the average aviation gasoline found in the old Soviet Union was any better than today's African Mogas anyway...

From what I know the Russians had to import Avgas during world war two, so would not be too far fetched to think that an AN-2 was designed to operate on Mogas, especially when you think of the places it was designed to operate.
