I could not agree with you more panthera on paying for your rating that is not acceptable .No wonder in some of the companies i have worked for the aircraft comes back with a long snag list.
Because we have alot of pilots that have paid for there ratings and dont have a clue about the aircraft they are flying and they copare it to the little cessna they flew to get there ppl.
Your statement i back up 100% panthera

pilots out there are to slack to stand together and fight for what is right with a few exceptions! a tipical south african attitude (and sorry to say that im an sa citizen myself)..Everyone out there is trying to get to the top and by "buying" there way to the top and at the same stabbing his best friend and fellow aviator in the back and not even feeling bad about it.The safety standards in SA has gone for a ball.. and sa are becoming the laughing stock of the whole world.
so, carry on..its already to late and beyond repair.

Moenie almal oor dieselfde kam skeer nie.
So let me get this straight. Even though I have done my time in Africa dodging crazed local with AK's etc. I am not allowed to pay (according to most of you) for the opportunity to sleep in my own bed everynight and fly a decent jet in good old SA??
I have earned my dollars and I can spend it any way I like.
On second thought - maybe I'll just sit on my ass at home and wait for SAA to beg me to come and fly on of their shiny jets.
Remember this - Life is not fair and you make your own luck...

I agree with GI above - lots of contract pilots with the view to saving some dollars and putting it into a rating for a job back home. Thats how competitive it can get, and how desperate one can get to just get back home. I am the same. Again, a symptom of having too many pilots. Limiting numbers is not 'elitist', nor is it a reflection that we think we're all Chuck Yeager, and feel we must protect ourselves from idiots. It's simply about protecting the careers of those already involved, like other industries already do. How it could be done is certainly a matter for discussion, I agree.
I know it would suck to be told that 'there are too many ATP/COM applications this year, come back next time', but then don't complain about salaries, or about people paying for ratings. It's the age old law of economics - supply and demand. Either get used to that, or do something about limiting numbers.
