Nationwide cargo heist

Another armed robbery at the cargo section:

Johannesburg - Four gunmen robbed staff at Nationwide Airline's cargo section in Kempton Park in the early hours of Thursday morning, police said. The four stormed into the airline's cargo section at the Johannesburg International Airport, overpowered staff, tied them and escaped with the undisclosed cargo. "The police are following up on sensitive information they received which might lead to early arrests," superintendent Eugene Opperman said. "Investigators are at this moment tight-lipped about their investigation, and the police will not divulge any further information that might jeopardise their chances to make early arrests," he said. Opperman said the robber happened about 04:30 on Thursday.

Security sucks!

i did a stint with Solenta (DHL) there once and i was amazed how easy it was to get onto the apron through the cargo section, i did't even have a JNB Intl pass, only uniform....

keep it up Securicor

Cool JHB Security

You would think after all the shXt they have had at the cargo section at JHB Int. the security would be just a tad better. The fact is I go through through either one of those gates at the cargo end {one at delta 5 and the other further to the north} several times a week in the early hours of the morning. Every time we go through there those jokers {more comonly known as security} make us walk through thier machine and it screams blue murder {due to phones etc setting it off} and they just park and don't so much as blink. I have no problem going through there but if we are going to get searched then it would be a good idea for them to search us. I have associates that have mistakenly forgotten personal firearms in thier flight bags. The fire arm went in and out with out a glitch. This is all going on on the "Air" side. Lord only knows what goes on on the public side of the wall!!!!!!

Need I say more?

A contractor friend tells me how he walks in and out of CT International - no problem at all.

He is just escorted by a guy who has been working there for a few weeks.

As soon as they see his " ***** Construction" Bakkie - woeps open comes the gate ....

I do not care if the newspapers reads this. For aviation security I will go all the way !

PS: They can contact me and I will provide names / dates as well

Guns.It has nothing to do with Aviation Safety. The Fox is already in charge of the Henhouse. Its a matter of making it tougher on you.........

Cool JHB Security......or rather lack of it.

Well they may get upset and thier ego's dented slightly by my comments here but the fact remains they are not doing thier job. They are already giving us a hard time anyway. Like I said earlier we are made to walk through the machines and put our bags through the Xray machines which is all great and very cool. But when the all the bells ring the guys {and gals} don't so much as flinch. So if they want to get all shXXty about it well what can I say, at least they will be actually doing what they get paid for. Quite frankly most of the time I feel safer flying for the UN in africa's war zones than at JHB cargo section.

For all those that are stripped searched by that big dude with a greasy forehead and fat fingers I appologise in advance!

Your loyal servant.

An Experience.......
I have been both ways at JNB. As Crew and as Pax. One day while headig to CPT in a hurry etc. I went through the passenger check and the gal said put your wallet on the tray..I thought that a bit strange, but wanted to see what they were up too. Sure as Sh*t I watched as she placed a rubber mat over it so it looked as the tray was empty before running it through.
How many wallets do you think she got......At least not mine.....

Snoop

Listen you lot of outjies.
The language of the forum, is, as I understand it, English. Tough luck Spion Kop.
Please keep it that way. These Afrikaans inuendoes, well, my slave can't translate that colloquially. Totsiens. Stamp die ruit out.
Graf Spee. 14 inch guns. Guns?

Bye the bye.
I used to escort my various old baggage onto the SAA Jumbos going to OZ. A great way to get rid of has beened girl friends. They were always so impressed. Must have been the Givenchy after shave. Sweet smell of success.Oofgh. Sort of thing.
All I ever had to do was to don my old unifrom. Four bars and a star helped. I often had a soda water in the back hold, just before pushback whilst having a congenial chat about the ovens, and, getting fixed up for the next night (24 hrs one) with the hostie with the imbalanced staircase. That means, least upstairs, most down--well, you got it.

OTD - I agree you have heard a lot of him - but the 90% plus I have heard of him he was Captain Eugene Opperman ... rings a bell ? Superintendent is quite a newish rank (5-10 years I would think) ?

Eugene Opperman

Ja (sorry, CC, I mean Yes) Guns,

Thank you for the clarification. Memory again I'm afraid.

But I do remember a "security" story, way back :

I remember going through JIA some years ago and the gentleman in secutiry wants to look in my nav bag. When I opened it, he saw my Maglite sitting on top. (useful in the cabin)

What is that ?

It is a torch.

A torch ?

Yes. my torch.

It is very nice, I like it, I would like to have it.

You would like to have it ?

Yes.

Well you can have it.

Thank you.
The gentleman reaches for the torch.

WAIT - You must pay me R150.00 (a few years back, remember)

R150 !!!!!

Yes. And what is your name ?

The gentleman turns and actually RUNS away.

Stru as Bob.

oTd
