Arrow Extreme Weather in West Africa hampers SAA flights

South African Airways' flights to West Africa had to turn back over the weekend due to extreme weather conditions caused by dust storms blowing off the Sahara desert.

Flights to Lagos in Nigeria, Abidjan in the Ivory Coast and Accra, Ghana were affected by sand storms and mist.

On Sunday SA088 on route to Abidjan, Ivory Coast and onwards to Accra, Ghana had to turn back to Windhoek in Namibia. This flight will leave Windhoek at 11h00 to return to Johannesburg today. The passengers will be accommodated on the scheduled Accra/Abidjan flight that departs at 16h30 today.

Friday's flight to Lagos, Nigeria had to turn back and landed in Luanda for fuel before returning to Johannesburg. Sunday's flight could land. The normal scheduled flight, SA060, will depart today at 14h55, with an additional flight, SA3060 leaving at 16h00 to take the stranded passengers from Friday's flight.
