Cheap plane rentals in Pretoria?

Hi

Does anyone know of a cheap plane to rent (Cessna 150 or other) in Wonderboom or Grand Central airports? I need to do a lot of hour building and am looking for something that costs less than R550.

Any information is welcome

Eric

Hi Eric

I would try CFA at Grand Central - might be a little expensive but it seems to be a sound operation. If your looking for really cheap I would try Wits Flying Club at lanseria. Havent done any flying with them but they rent out their 150's at 450 per hour.

Ciao

WOW R450 sounds good to me! I do know of a friend who flew with them and got stuck somewhere because the engine wouldn't start. He gave them a call and they weren't very helpful though. I can't remember the whole story but he wasn't very impressed. It might have just been bad luck. I'll give them a call anyway.

Thanks!
Eric

Hi Eric

I had a look at Wits flying club a couple of days ago, and to be perfectly honest Im not too sure how sound the operation is. They werent very helpful. The rates are cheap but you have to pay for your own insurance and membership. Lanseria is good experience as its obviously very busy but because its busy most of the time you can be waiting for half an hour for t/off clearence. A little anoying and a waste of time.
Were you by any chance, at FTC? Im sure I remember you???

Ciao BL.

WITS Flying Club

I happened visited almost all of the flying schools around Gauteng last year, because I'll be doing a fair amount of flying this year. Amongst these was Wits Flying Club, at FALA. I'm not sure where this misconception has come from, but I'll surely do anything in my power to kill it. Apart from the fact that W.F.C. has the best prices in the COUNTRY, they also have some of the best instructors. W.F.C. is a non-profit organisation - this means they make no money from aircraft hire.

I've flown at W.F.C., and have never encountered any problems. I can give you the number for Dr. Robert Gobac, who's an instructor at W.F.C. - just send me a PVT msg. Visit their Website at: www.witsflyingclub.co.za

I'll be flying at W.F.C. as from June 2005.

Plane Hire

Hi Eric

I own a very neat little Cesna 152, I may be looking for some work for the aircraft. The plane is at Lanseria at the moment, no rates have been worked out yet and I am exploring alternative hangerage...........will need a few days to sort out final details.
If interested PM me, will also need your total time and hours on type.

Cheers.

affordable flying

I have a 172, having an overhaul done at the moment (MPI). If any of you are keen, i will offer you time on her. Must have personal excess 30k and minimum 100 hours. Dry rate of R480-00 per hour. Will consider block hour discount. No overborder flights. Based in JHB, either FAGC or FALA.

Defence Flying Club

Hi All
Not sure if this will help but not a lot of people seem to know that The Defence Flying Club is not just for Military personel. Anybody can join. I am not a member but have now spoken to two members and this is the gen I got.

C-150 (150hp engine) R420.00 all inclusive
Cherokee 160 plus minus R550.00 all inclusive.
One thing that is nice about their location is that they are on a military base (SWARTKOPS) and there is not a lot of traffic around from what I can gather, so no looong!!!! TAXING AND WAITING.
To belong to the club I think costs R800.00 a year

Call them on (012) 351 2229 Best would be to try in the morning

Birdlady,

Yes, I was at FTC last year. Who are you?

Jacobest, where is Swartkops again? I know the name but I can't remember where it is. Is it in Gauteng?

Cheers
Eric

FASK about 10 mins by road from Midrand. Just South of Pretoria and West of Waterkloof. It's getting a bit run down now but the club is doing well. They also have a couple of Jabirus if you're a crippled, hunchbacked dwarf.

"south of pretoria and west of waterkloof"??? I'm completely lost now! sounds like you're describing lanseria!!

Birdlady

I was never an instructor. Who're thinking of another Eric who I think was portuguese but not actually from Portugal.

Swartkops is just south-west of Pretoria. Its actually in Valhalla, which borders on Centurion. It probably lies within the Waterkloof CTR. Hope that clarifies things for you.
