Ralph Louw

Ralph Louw, a Johannesburg based Helicopter Flight Instructor was critically injured whilst cycling on Friday.

For those of us in the aviation industry that know Ralph, I am sure there is a fervent and collective hope that he makes a speedy and full recovery. He is not only a fine instructor, but a fine man.

Eye witness reports say a taxi intentionally went for him, knocking him from his bike. This resulted in him sustaining severe head injuries as well as broken ribs. He was airlifted from one facility to another because of the nature of his injuries. At the moment we hear that he is stable but still in ICU.

For those who live in Johannesburg and know the area better than me - please enlighten us. It sounds like this is becoming an ever increasing event where cyclists are being deliberately targeted by taxis.

Hang in there, Ralph! Our thoughts are with you.

There's a JB thread regarding world's worst taxi drivers. Perhaps you should make mention of this there.

Hang in there Ralph. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Next time I fly to an accident scene where one of them has (again) tried to defy the laws of physics, maybe I will just keep on flying......

All the best, Ralph. Hope you get better soon.

I hope they got that driver and cut off his legs (among other things) with a blunt spoon

Ralph is still in ICU (today being Tuesday 7th), he is still kept under sedation. Apparently the operation to relieve pressure on the brain was successful - reports indicate that he is restless, so we hope and pray that the prognosis will be good. Hang in there Ralph!

Ralph Louw

Every bit of news we are hearing about Ralph is great!

It is still early days but each day shows improvement.

Although a case has been opened, the usual lethargy exists in the persuit of the driver. Is there anyone out there that can assist in tracking this maniac down that thought it clever to do what he did.

I know the pressing issue is for Ralph to make a speedy recovery and for us to see him doing what he is good at and enjoys tremendously - flying and of course that sense of humour and his smile.

I am sure all of us want to see this criminal behaviour stopped and the person responsible for this taken off the roads, as we hear of this sort of thing all too often. Maybe somone can assist!!

We are all thinking of you Ralph!

Accident Details

Hi DD

So far I have managed to establish the following:

A Dark Blue VW Combi with one occupant. According to teh two eyewitness drivers the man deliberately went for him.

The Reg is HHF368GP.

The case was made at Metro Police in Midrand and the case number is 04120007.

This may already be know to a number of people out there.

Hear that Ralph is sitting up and has already taken two steps - so all positive news.

Holding thumbs for a speedy recovery and of course holding thumbs for the recovery of the occupant of the Dark Blue VW Combi.
