Pretty much the same as anywhere - blue on top with white fluffy bits, brown and green stuff down below.

Be more specific. Based where? Which organisation/aircraft?

Cool Sudan

Around 30 crew working for SA companies based in Khartoum the capital...flying for different NGO's.

Weather is usually very hot....sits around 40 most days. The sand storms can get nasty over jan/feb and CB's are very common.

Situation FAIRLY stable through the South and East due to ongoing peace process between GoS/SPLA. Dafur is nasty in areas, BBC usually is the best for reports. BUT BUT....situation can escalate to war/violence/anarchy at any time...like any other african country. Crew are safe.

PM me where u are going to work and what typ of ops you doing and i'll be able to fill in blanks easier.

What fire said.

Just remember Ggggghhhhhhartoum is dry and they'll nick your dop at customs when you try to smuggle it in. I've heard the customs guys are quite partial to a dop themselves and take it home with them.

Beggars can't be choosers...

A cold castle is better than NO BEER at all....I'm sure you agree with me on that one SRT???

Back on topic....sudan is a good country to fly in, ATC and NAVAIDS are being improved, more companies starting everyday who need A/C. The next year or so there is going to be very interesting.

Cold beers & safe skies

Nope. Rather drink water then. At least it doesn't give you a permanent orange afro and make you glow in the dark (except Russian water from Chernobyl, that is.).

Guns

Thanks for the gen. Always useful having plan B.

Dopping in Khartoum

SRT,

You are right. If they find booze on you it's cadenza time. I had a narrow squeak which makes me tremble to think about it. Or maybe I just got the shakes again ...

Booze-free stay then, great if you want to shed a few kgs.

Good luck anyway. I found the people very friendly and never felt threatened, bit different to down south.

edge, Loki is busy into south Sudan, and as mentioned a lot of $$ pouring in in the next couple of years and will get busier.
Combination of UN contracted ops and ad hoc charter companies. Safair, Rossair, Trident, Queensway ( I think ) and some others on UN work. Try 748 Services, Turbine Air services, Trackmark, ACS who are ad hoc. Lots more popping up as you've heard. Most have NBO offices.
The flying's great, interesting strips... Never really had a prob but good to be polite to guys with AKs.
Loki is busy and a good crowd, always cold Tusker ( or Castle if you have to ) Several daily flights to NBO to stock up on sanity.
A/C types: C130s, Buffalos, lots of Vans, Let 410s, various Antonovs, Twotters, DC3s with Rossair, coupla King airs and 1900s. Combination 5Y and ZS registered.
Enjoy.
