SACAA Professionalism ??
Looking at my African Pilot weekly e mail an item of interest caught my eye.........
It is no secret that the SACAA is struggling under the weight of inexperienced and untrained staff members, - but this takes the cake !
Apparently a new CAA inspector grounded a turboprop on the ramp as it was being refuelled with JET A1, because of course, we all know that propellor driven aircraft use AVGAS !!!
I dare the CAA to publish this brain dead individual's name so everyone knows who NOT to hire ! We all make mistakes,- but to attempt to ground the airplane cause you are stupid ??? The mind boggles ! If this individual was being trained, who the hell let him onto a ramp by himself ?
Is it not amazing that the SACAA demands ever increasing amounts of paperwork and tests to prove that we can professionally operate an aircraft, yet they can hire the dumbest of the dumb to oversee those requirements ? Shame on you I say - see to your own operations before you deem yourself to be professional enough to oversee mine !

Not just the SACAA
2 Years ago the new KMIA was oppened at Nelspruit. The airport owners went through the correct process to obtain a freq for the ILS. From ICASA to the CAA and back to ICASA and they were given the same freq as FAJS RWY 03R.
Not a problem with the freq. +- 5 Months ago CAA contacted a local cpy to change frequency as a local airline (SAA) filed an incident of picking up KMIA ILS instead of JIA 03R. No Problem as it could be a potential dangerous situation if within the protected area of 25NM.
A notam was issued by the SACAA (sure it is still current) that pilots should exrse caution as KMIA was picked up in excess of 60NM???????
Isn't there a procedure that you only select ILS within the protected area. Is it really just the CAA that is lacking Professionalism??

Yep, what happened to "tune, identify and check that the indications are correct" - and certainly KMIA shouldn't interfere when within 25 nm from FAJS and anywhere lower than the stratoshpere.
But the mind still boggles about the Avgas powered turbine... almost as bad as the US FAA inspector who grounded a Mooney with a Q-tip prop because of the "damaged prop".

...Or the accident investigator who wanted to know about an engine failure when the tacho cable went U/S, or the other accident investigator who asked an AME what a turbocharger did.......
The list is endless.

Tried to get a Cessna 210 T onto my instructors rating only to be told I could not as I had not done the turbine endorsement exam - tried to explain that the T means Turbo Charged not Turbine and this did not seem to help. Guess they fill those planes with Jet A as well. They go faster that way!!! But I still cannot find this in the flight manual.

Canthover that is good. Consider though there are some turbine 210s, 206s etc.. (T210, T206........not C210T, C206T) At least the person got to flex their authority which is very important in a Government position.
I flew one of the T206 conversions and it is really sweet. Power out the gazoo.
