206 rating
Hi
Can anyone out there tell me where in South Africa you can get a 206 rating. I have heard there is a firm at Grand Central. Also if anyone has any advice on which ratings would be useful for getting a job flying in the bush I would be very grateful.
Cheers Flying Paddy

hello bro,
i cant help you with info about the whereabouts of training centre's but i could tell you that...regardless of your experiences in the past this is one special machine you are planning to get checked out on,presuming you are talking about the cessna 206...
a lot of bush pilot if not all of them have flown this machine and they have all got nothing but respect for it...oh that includes me aswell....this aircraft flies differently at different weights so make sure you get a full check out..
Famous quotes from 206 pilots include "if the doors close it will fly" and "anyone who says he/she hasn't bounced a 206 is a liar"
I am not trying to scare you....i think the cessna 206 is probably the best single engine cessna i ever flew...once you get the hang of it...
take care and all the best
no more 406pilot.
ps:while you're at it try flying the one with a robertson stol kit installed, its a totally different beast altoghether

If you have to start the engine to keep the tail from hitting the ground while they load the last pax/pile of freight, there's a better than average chance you're out of CofG limits and an engine failure around rotate speed will mean an immediate stall and pigging into the klip. If you're unfortunate enough to end up in that situation try to keep the speed up around 100kts or higher to give you some elevator authority in the event of the organic fertiliser striking the turbine type wind impeller.
.....Then get the nose down quick and hold it there until you release the forward pressure in order to level out for the accident, *ahem*, landing.

awesome solid rust twotter
i almost forgot about that thanx for that reminder, although we had this as a cg limit check:
load it up and close the doors then push the horizontal stabilizer with your leg until the airplane sits on the ground until the nosewheel lifts...then let it go...if the tail returns to normal its good to go...if it stays put thn the plane is tail heavy...he he he "desparate times create desparate measures"....
oh by the way the plane does run out of trim(not trim run away) on landing so u just gotta hold it there with force.
just a final reminder about the landing when empty...this plane doesn't wanna quit flying when you remove the power it floats so you gotta really pull back on the control column, and the view over the window is limited for an average height guy,but u will get the hang of it
keep it up there

and I thought the limits were purely volumetric!!
If you haven't got someone to hold the tail up un-load the backseat pax before shut-down!
But just to re-iterate check your ROD when heavy - you'll probably only ever do one light load landing
Don't worry these babies bounce beautifully hahaha

Your other problem is that when the aircraft is empty the nose drops when you take away power on the flare. It'll sucker you the first time or two until you learn to catch it.
C182, C205, C207, C210 have the same tendency when empty.

There is a bolt in the nose gear assembly which if it shears will allow the gear leg to retract with a consequent prop strike. As this is the sort of aircraft you tend to operate away from base for prolonged periods ,get an engineer to show it to you and include it on your preflight.
If flying the STOL version it will hang in the air like a helicopter ,but when it lets go it goes big time and very quickly ,don't get caught out.
Excellent bush aircraft ,I have fond memories of them. A pick up truck with wings.

The only other drawbacks I can think of now are the 1/2 opening window, not so good for pictures but easily remedied and the roll rate isn't so good without diving and the paintshceme never includes oil streaks on the pod
with trivial comments as these I'm sure you now know she's a bakkie of note
