Flight data recorder found....
Bill Fowler of the Transportation Safety Board is calling the discovery of the flight data recorder a break in the investigation, but said they are still looking for the cockpit voice recorder.
The recorder will be taken to TSB headquarters in Ottawa, where it will be examined.
Fowler told a news conference that the data recorder might have suffered some heat damage.
"We are not certain of the integrity of the data, but certainly this is an important milestone in our investigation," Fowler said.

Commander 690 - Clive Ward still at MKA and doing well. Both boys appear to be following in his footsteps
dickyd737 - seventh hull loss not quite correct: MKB DC8-55F, MKD DC8,MKI B747-200,MKJ B747-246F, dates not to mind, but in on approach, two at PHC, one at KAN and obviously Halifax. An accident at FIH some years was mistakenly attributed to MK when in fact it was the former AFFRETAIR operating for a Congolese company on the Ghanaian reg.Mercifully the crew and one passenger escaped
Fond memories of "Captain Thornie" in Madrid ("no sunnies on the flight deck" and "a short, tubby loadie called George"). All who knew him in aviation and the bushlife will miss his wonderful character, leadership and enduring charm.

Would anyone have details on whether a memorial for the crew is being held in South Africa?
We lost a very good friend in this tragic accident and would like to pay our respects.
