I have more instances where politicians and higher ranks in the SAAF played a part in the outcome of a pupes destiny in the 'pre-democratic' SA.
All too true and very wrong- but two wrongs don't make a right - (but two Wrights made the aeroplane).

What has happened within the corridors of SAAF HQ (and I am sure under tremendous political pressure) is less than smart!

I now state what everyone knows and perpetuates commentary made earlier in this topic - but here goes!

We as aviators go all-out for an internationally accepted standard to which we strive to attain and maintain. I don't give two continental (you know what) if I share airspace with a competent different gender, race, religion, national, handicapped etc entity - please let us agree to a standard and maintain it! I now state the obvious - for the mafia within SAAFHQ to push this lad into being a statistic to satisfy demographics and then eventually into a situation which he may not be able to handle is doing him (his family and us, the users of airspace) a disservice and I hope we never read about his demise in a newspaper. Believing that this student’s ability is under question and reviewed diligently without prejudice, do him and the rest of us a favour and wash him!

I met one of the Yank instructors in Namiba doing the training of the locals on the 337's - poor guy was a wreck from trying to get the basics across....

The Zim Air Force still have their Hawks and yes, some are still flying. I saw a formation of two not so long ago. Serviceable, I do not know, flyable, seems so.

Devil And now???

I remember a CFI at Dunno's walking about the turf (at Dunno's nogal) bragging about the fact that the VNE of a Spammy (206 KIAS if my memory is still with me) means nothing ("there's a 25 percent safety factor built into any aircraft") and that he, while leading the Spammy aerobatics team, usually took the bottom of the entry to a 4 ship formation loop at about 235 KIAS "to be safe". Back to me wine corks... Fk I need it!

This one isn't going to lie down - the politicians are going to push this one until some more fools break some more aircraft:
Pretoria - The department of defence is considering sending student pilots who fail their exams to Botswana to find out whether they deserved to fail or not. Speaking on behalf of Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota and defence secretary January Masilela, the department hinted to the portfolio committee on defence that some students failed because certain instructors were racist. Rafeek Shah, the Democratic Alliance's spokesperson for defence, said on Tuesday the defence force's strategy for human resources was a mess. "If there are racist instructors in the air force, then the department must deal with them. "What message do plans like this send to other countries in southern Africa on the quality of training in the defence force?" he asked.

His comments came after a student pilot, who had failed numerous tests, was allowed to continue his training - and went on to damage an Astra training plane in landing. According to Shah, the defence force trapped itself when it retrenched officers purely because of their race. According to him, the defence force recently let 77 colonels go - of whom 76 were whites. He also condemned the defence force's move to promote certain low-ranking soldiers. Scores of reintegrated soldiers were promoted - some from adjutant-officer to lieutenant-colonel. Shah said this had resulted in high-ranking officers not having the experience necessary for their posts.

Helmoed Romer-Heitman of Jane's Defence Weekly said that if student pilots were sent to Botswana for evaluation, it translated into an "unfortunate breakdown in trust" between the department and its instructors. He said if this was the case and he was an instructor, he would resign.
Watch this space.

Grrr

To :Pontius' Pilot

I remember then letting this short sighted guy continue training even though he had difficulties parking his car in the garage( always hit the walls) he was posted to Tankers,he later collided when refuelling 2 fighters over Ngumbu bay at Masokolo.

Politicians beware: Leave Intructors to instruct-not distruct.
