Presumably, you know the details of the soap opera leading upto the sudden collapse and possible demise of EASA - so I don't need to go into that side of things.

As for what's happened since, its all gone a bit quiet. The last bar talk I heard is that EASA has definitely ceased operations, and their three aircraft DC9/Fokkers are sitting at Jomo Kenyatta - two on the main apron, one stuck in remote parking and none flying anywhere. Staff and passengers were abandoned wherever they happened to be - in Rome, Nairobi, etc with no provision to assist whatsoever!! Nice one boys!

Saw Ogden's wife and she confirmed that he is definitely trying to seperate the local Express part of the company from the mess so that he can carry on doing local schedule flights to Kisumu/Lokki etc which is where things started and probably with hindsight where they should have stayed - and sure enough they are still flying a bit - a friend had his ticket honoured recently.

As far as legally goes, I think the case has been put infront of the authorities for prelimnary hearings but that takes time in Africa - so that's about where it is at the moment.....! Apart from the issues over ownership and misappropriated insurance monies, the main adversary seems to be the fuel companies who are moaning loudly about their substantial debts!! Basically I'm still trying to work out how they could have let a new struggling airline with little backing run up such ENORMOUS fuel bills without sounding serious alarms Much, Much earlier. As long as it doesn't bump fuel costs locally, I'm inclined to think that if they're daft enough to lend such amounts, they're probably daft enough to lose the money!! Serve them right.

Cheers

One Company, East African Safari Air stopped operations on 9th Sept 2004. EASA operated with 2 B767 300ER to London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, and Milan as well as charter. (International) This company is under receivership.

The other company, East African Safari Air Express (domestic / Regional) has never ceased operations. EASAX stopped operations to JRO and ZNZ as these were charters on behalf of the International flights.

One DC9 is parked at remote due to ingesting pebbles from a runway that was resurfaced with no prior NOTAM and loose gravel / tar not rolled.

The remaining aircraft (DC9, F28, G159, Twin Otter and Let 410) are all operating as per normal on the routes to LKG, KIS, MYD, MBA.

Staff for EXPRESS have been attending work on a daily basis and were not 'abandoned' anywhere.

I just realized I have worked for a ghost airline for a year ...
We do not know what goes on in Italy, they do not know what is going on over UK, Spain or France ... Is it possible nobody knows in Kenya either?

similar words different context.
suprised ogdens still there , bit slow on the old permit revoking these days.

Receivers are Deloitte.

easa

Thanks Komba
I agree that Ogden tried everthing to keep it going but was F....d by experts
EASA still has great potential but will always be at the mercy of politicians ( Kenyan,Italian etc) and predatory competors

Asante

Grrr

Views will always be different about who scre** up
But however the facts at the end of the day are still the same
I don't stand on the side of italians, but remember that when the accident in FCO happened EASA was already late paying our july wages (never seen!). ENAC gave back rights after 2 weeks ... but the company had already no money and no aircraft
Potential was there (flights were always full) just seem we were run by a had full of incompetents!

Yes ... forgot to ask ... What whoever the good guy was is doing in NBO? How come they hide behind a finger pretending they don't know last time we were pay was last June????
