Nigerian Fixed Wing Pilot salaries

Hey Boys and Girls,

could anyone out there give me a good idea how much newly qualified pilots in Nigeria can expect to earn on fixed wing turbo-props. I know it kinda depends on the company one works for, expat/local and so on, but an idea would be nice. And also, are pilots paid in the Naira or foriegn currency.

Hello,

i). Are you a Nigerian ? If so, you have to convert your licence and you will be paid in Naira. If not, I guess you will have to be a Captain and might be paid in Dollars.

ii). It depends on who you are flying for. The oil companies pay very well. You might have to target the likes of Bristol and Mobil. Most pilots in Nigeria want to work for these guys because of how much they pay. If working for the turbo-props and jets companies, you might be looking at about £1500 - £2000 (take home) as a First Officer, not too sure about the Captains.

Nigerian Fixed Wing Pilot salaries

Hi Dotun,

thanks for the reply, I am a Nigerian with a brand new JAA CPL/(ME)IR and frozen ATPL, no MCC. Regarding your reply, I have a couple of questions.

1) What would I need to do to convert my licences?
2) Would I end up with a full Nigerian CPL/IR or just a validated one?
3) What are my chances of getting a job in a turbo-prop, considering I have just the bare essentials and no type rating as is required by a lot of airlines here in the UK.
4) Do you enjoy the flying you do over there?

Regard AP

No probs,

1). Since you have the JAA license ,all you have to do is the Air law exam. It should not be too difficult since its modelled on the very old UK syllabus.
2). You will be given the full Nigerian CPL.
3). Overland Airways are in need of newly qualified pilots at the moment. They currently have B1900 and the ATRs are on the way to Lagos I heard.
4). Flying is good here in Nigeria and West Africa, the weather (thunderstorms) can be a nightmare, but you will learn how to avoid them. Radar in Lagos and Abuja seem to be working ok now.

Phew!!!!!

thats absolutely great, I thought I would have had to go and do another instrument rating and CPL test again, I don't think I would have been able to muster the strength to go through all that again. The Air Law exam should be alright, as long as they let me see the answers before I take the exam(lol). I'll definitely look into this Overland Airways and see how I can apply to them. I'm also looking at Aerocontractors, although I've seen some of their hourly requirements for first officers through their parent company schreiner, and I don't think I'm anywhere near that. I'm assuming that bcos these airlines pay for your type rating, there must be some kind of bond, if so how long is typical?
