Sackings at Airlink
Have just heard that Airlink have fired the entire pilot compliment (4) operating the Lear 31 and Baron based at Ulundi.AirlinK had the contract to operate the aircraft on behalf of the Kwa -Zulu government and as a result of some sort of dispute between them( Airlink) and the govt the aircraft are grounded.I believe that the crew have been simply dismissed without notice with immediate effect. There is no question of any wrongdoing by the crew. Not too sure but I think a couple of them are ALPA members,be interesting to see what help they get from that direction.Anyone out there able to shed any light on the matter.I didn't think you could just fire people nowdays but obviously I was wrong.Good luck to the affected crew.

Maybe this is fall-out from the recent election. Didn't ANC gain control of KZN? In which case maybe Ulundi will no longer be the "seat of power" for the province, so no need to service that particualr village. If the new KZN governemnt has decided it no longer needs a private fleet of aircraft, and have cancelled the management contract with Airlink.....
Still, unless the pilots were employed as independent contractors or similar, I don't think they could be fired out of hand. Sounds like one for ALPA or a decent labour lawyer.
