26 September, 2003: SAA PILOT DIES AFTER CAR ACCIDENT

26 September, 2003, JOHANNESBURG: South African Airways (SAA) pilot, Tshepo Ferdinand Lobeko has died from injuries sustained during a car accident earlier in the week.
Lobeko, died on Tuesday, three days after he lost control of his car as he was driving home on Sunday morning. He was admitted to the Sunninghill Hospital and passed away on Tuesday.
Lobeko, 32, who was a First Officer on the 737 800 fleet, joined SAA in February 1, 2000 from South African Express (SAX).
He was passionate about creating awareness about aviation as a career within the previously disadvantaged communities.
That is why on November 1, 2002, he was appointed Manager, Cadet Pilot Training Programme, where his role was to identify candidates from historically disadvantaged communities to be trained as pilots. He excelled in his job.
SAA has lost a loyal and dedicated individual and we will all sorely miss him.
A memorial service will be held at the Airways Park Auditorium, 3rd floor, at 12 noon on 26 September. His funeral service will take place at the Centurion Christian Church, Old Johannesburg Road, next to CTM, on Saturday morning at 9am.
Tshepo is survived by his wife, Viviane, son Marvin, 8 and Tshepo junior, two weeks old.

Tshepo,

What a tragic loss ! You were such an important cog in the wheel of transformation at SAA. Your committment to the Cadet Pilot program was highly regarded.

Rest in peace colleage - you will be sorely missed, not only by us at SAA, but by all those young aspiring pilots out there who will miss out on the opportunity of meeting you and learning from you.

May God be with Vivian and the 2 boys at this very sad time.
