Cabin Crew are trained to scream at the Pax during an evacuation to motivate those pax who would otherwise be frozen or paralyzed by fear.
It is a normal human reaction in an emergency situation and it serves a functional adaptive purpose.
Part of the flight or flee response.

Screaming into a crowd is a great way to generate a panic and result in trampling and blocking. It is a normal human reaction for panicked people to shove people ahead and if those are knocked down, they form a large obstacle with those farther back will try to add even more force to overcome. This leads to piles of bodies trapped in exit ways when there was plenty of time for a calm exit.

Where I worked the cabin crew were most definitely not trained to scream…they were however trained to shout/issue loud positive commands in the event of an evac such as “come this way” “stay on your feet, keep moving”.

Yes, I agree that my use of scream is the wrong word.

What MechEng and wiggy said is a much better way to describe the commands to be given during evacuation. :-)
