If the cabin crew can extinguish engine fires, then the airlines can save money on hydrostatics, refills and squib install life by removing the bottles, all will be happy.

The aircraft in question (a Maleth A332 on lease to TUI AW) hasn't had a good week - it turned round 15 minutes into a MAN-Palma flight on Thursday. No information on whether that was engine-related.
