The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority released a report on Sep 10 regading the serious ATR72 icing- incident back in 2016.

Unfortunately I can't share the URL due to forum rules. It should be possible to google it.

Your minimum icing speed, half bank protected, is increased by ten knots, if you want to fly full bank or NAV you need 10 knots on top of the new red bug.

The ATR is a piece of crap, happy not flying it anymore...
I used to dread those days but actually it was lot of fun and flying 3 or 4 days a week from an outstation, good schedule
enthusiastic crews a fond memory. The pay was still crap.

ATR can handle ice well if you follow FCOM recommendation of keeping at least 10- 30 knots(depending on severity) above icing speed bug even if it requires descent. All this mishaps and upsets happen when your experienced captain senses there's clear sky few thousand feet above. Never try to outclimb heavy icing on the ATR unless you wanna see how it spins out of control.
