QRH and model identification

Good evening everyone,

Today I had an interesting experience and I need the help of the experts out there. A last minute aircraft swop required me to fly a new addition to the fleet but an old 737-400. This was our 'backup aircraft' to the -800 that diverted. Anyways, I discovered that the QRH and FCOM did not reflect its serial number. The CP gave me permission to go, and as Murphy will have it, we got a PACK light. So which serial number do I follow now? The options available to me did not include the aircrafts serial number.

Any insight into the matter would be highly appreciated because I did not take off and decided in the interest of safety not to use that aircraft. We all know that safety and profitability go in different directions. I need to prepare my version for tomorrow's meeting as to why I did not fly. Can I fly a serial number that is not in the company QRH? Or FCOM?

Merry Christmas or happy holidays to all. Thanks.
