Just like BAW when they canx swathes of domestic when LHR is hit by bad wx then the well known bad wx contingency with RYR is to canx a complete bank of departures to protect the other banks & to save a/c then stranded overseas...it is observed perhaps as harsh but all majors would do that based in a Northern Hemisphere Winter.But you know that.
Just an observation but your EZY a/c if flying down from Scotland is almost certainly then based away so different factors in play..But again you would know that.
