The correct story is that GEC Marconi purchased the business and assets of McAlpine Aviation and created a new company Magec Aviation, excluding the TE731 maintenance business and a pair of BAC 1-11. The name was a confection of
Marconi and
GEC. McAlpine ceased to have any involvement after the sale.
The business was later sold to Lynton Aviation and then Signature. However tracking which company the various parts ended up with is quite complicated.
