In US, as long as the plane is not for hire, there is no requirement for 100-hourly at all.
AFAIK, it's not the case in Australia (yet another example of how CASA thinks it knows better than FAA). Is that true?

Yes that is true. Speak to your maintenance provider about which schedule is best for your situation.
