Still no conversion in 2017. I would suggest contacting the FAA IFO for your side to get all the latest options.

With an existing foreign mechanic license, the hardest part is documenting the experience requirements for FAR Part 65.77 and obtaining the "authorization cards" to take the written and oral exams. Whether you can do that on your side I do not know.

However, short of a miracle, I think the only option is to visit my side and take the test here since there are no more IFOs outside the States that I know of.
