In terms of continuing to operate I believe the board decided that it would not be feasible to continue normal operations as the demands of "money up front" would not be sustainable.
The board didn't decide, in the UK if your company is in the winding up process you cannot continue to operate and all company assets are no longer yours. So, in essence, they no longer owned said planes and as such could not operate anyway.
