Was it not an old girlfriend who initiated setting up the fund for him.
I wasn't under the impression that the fund was intended for anything specific , other than getting Colin out of Japan alive and in one piece , along with Itzy.
Some "global" flights are better financed than others and this lad still gets my vote.
Then again , some "global" flights end up with the aircraft being completely wrecked and then re-appearing again , as new , just weeks later.
I know who I'm supporting....
Looking at the the two scenarios Colin has been a true adventurer compared to TCT with her huge funding and engineer up front.

There may be aspects of his planning and attitude to authority that raise questions to how we might have have done the trip.

However he flew the journey his way in a tiny aircraft built by himself.

He never made any false claims and was quick to admit why the adventure ended on that Japanese golf course.

Enroute he met some really wonderful fellow aviators.

The Russians were by his account exceptional in their support.

Despite the mishap Colin has great memories of Japan which he will never forget.

Many dream of adventure but few achieve because of the risk.

The LAA members ,especially Chris Martyr ,deserve credit for their support.
