Reading the reports, it seems that the co-pilot was the handling pilot throughout. Was that Maritime practice, or was it so the Captain/first pilot could maintain control over the whole incident and manage the varied necessary responses. Seems, if I may say so, to have been a hugely challenging incident brilliantly handled by the whole crew
