Better from Above
Because of the terrain all of the Instrument approaches are for runway 12. Can't quote for other aircraft but for the 737 that means we would use that runway for landing up to a 15 kts tailwind. Above that you are right, it would be a circling approach, for which we need a cloud base of about 3300 feet above the airfield.
For Denti and Eckhard, thanks for your advice, it was the special ILS approach for Salzburg, for which I have done the sim training, which got me wondering about the approval for SJJ.
