Sky willies are hardly new.

Back in the glory days of the RAuxAF, someone drew one in the sky near Edinburgh - on the Sabbath. This upset some senior Jockistani god-botherer, who rang the Stn Cdr....

A little later, a squadron of (Meteors?) took off, formed up and flew across the offending item, as if to cross it out; then a couple of battle turns and back at 90° to the first pass, to make absolutely certain.

Which merely had the effect of drawing the original creation to the attention of those who hadn't noticed it earlier...

In the mid-70s, noting the upper winds and contrail levels, the boss of the 4FTS Hunter squadron allegedly drew one, which slowly made its way across the skies over Manchester...
