As a student, I wouldn't worry about it, I'd learn to fly following the directions/advice of your instructor first. Once you've passed your test(s), or you get close to that point, then start thinking about electronic aids for use in the aircraft you'll be flying. A lot can change between then and now.
You're right. I'm just thinking ahead with the idea that Apple may in fact discontinue the iPad Mini's altogether. You can get one for a great price right now and if they quit making them, they'll go way up. I'm really hoping that Apple comes out with a new one.
