On a PA28.
Check fuel to the tabs = 30 Imp Gallons
Burn @ 100kts = 8.5 gall/hr = 3.5 hours flight time
Fly for no more than 2.5 hours before refuel.
I believe they hold 40 gall to the top but would have to check.
