Way back in the early 1980s, long before you were born.
I was a flight instructor for about four or five months.
I thoroughly enjoyed doing it and learned a lot.
Not just about flying, but about other people and myself.
It most defiantly was a worthwhile experience.

But towards the end, I was beginning to tire of it.
I knew I wanted to move on.

One day whilst it was pouring with rain. a Lear Jet landed.
Whilst the other instructors just stood around complaining.
I walked up with two umbrellas asking if I could help them in any way.

Then I broke out the resume, and asked if they may be looking for a co-pilot.
They said that they may be, what were my qualifications.
ATP single and multi engine land. A&P mechanic, CFI-II-ME and 1700 total time with 300 multi.
Jobs were much harder to get back then.

Then I asked who I needed to speak to about a job.
'Me' he replied.
'Then I'd like to apply for the job, sir.'
'Can you be in Detroit by tomorrow?'
'Yes I can.'
'Your hired, see you tomorrow 8am sharp.'
I drove thru the night.

When I went back inside to quit, the other instructors turned on me.
'How comes you get a job, I've been here longer.'
'Because I asked, you did nothing.'

You get jobs in this industry by presenting yourself correctly and talking to people.
I don't care if you've got two degrees and am a Embry-Riddle graduate.
It doesn't mean squat if you have zero personality and the wrong attitude.

Get out there and network.
Great things can happen if you apply yourself.
Nothing happens if you don't.
