insurance to cover the missed connections - that is fantastic news. It will more than compensate for being left stranded in STN or LTN with a family of 4 as you missed your 'connection'. Or missing that business meeting you had arranged in Milan and the deal you missed out on coz you didn't bother to turn up.

Or the wedding or funeral that you can not now attend in Alicante, the insurance will definetly make up for that......

sometimes people a few pound savings is not the only consideration that pax have to make....

I agree with crazy idea - the scheduled services are there to create choice for the passenger - some will be suited to low-co, others want the guarantee. There is obvioulsy a place in the market where scheduled services and low-costs can operate along side each other.
