It does appear that bmiregional have a niche on thin routes, where Airbus 319 or greater in size could not sustain a viable service. Any move to aircraft that either cost significantly more or have higher operating costs is dangerous territory to get into. Though no doubt an embraer 145s will have high unit operating costs. Putting the likes of 319s into play immediately invites others in e.g. easyjet. Though 175 with the right cost equation could work...
