Right. So what's the problem? Several million pax, and that includes me on around a dozen occasions have benefited. And I intend to keep using the airport so long as this 'nonsense' keeps going and until everybody bankrupts themselves. Or perhaps there's a brighter future than you suggest.
Either way I've enjoyed not having to get stressed out in traffic on the M25 / M11 just to fly off to one of my favourite 'kiss me quick' destinations.
