However, it is worth saying here that the generation of a new gong tends to depend strongly on the support of ARMY high rankers. They tend to view RAF involvement in any conflict as superficial and, OPs where the RAF have the primary involvement rarely get support. Additionally, where gongs are declared, the qualifying criteria are based upon the ARMY deployment or rotation dates. The RAF has a history of being short-changed on this basis.
