Who's justifying anything here? In my flying career (nearly 30 years) I've known very very few pilots with degrees... Then again I've been flying all over the world rather than the USA!
Learning to fly young also teaches time management, hustle and life skills
Really, why would you waste 3 or 4 years in university when you could be flying, gaining experience and working your way up a seniority list?
I make more money than you and have more time off.
