My experience with the Bell 47 at Redhill/BHL with the Ancient Old Fellow from Oz....the one who could keep a three inch ash on a two inch fag.....and called everyone "Shag" ....was One pulled the Collective to the "Up" Mechanical Stop...keeping the Throttle hard pressed against the "On" Stop....and "Wiggled" the Cyclic to break friction a bit on one Skid or another.....and you were off like a Herd of Slugs to go do Confined Areas. Landing was much easier....you backed off the Up Stop a smidgen and held some airspeed till you hit the parking spot....then undid what you did to get airborne less the Cyclic wiggling!
